At Buno (“we”, “us”, or “our”), we value your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information of you and your child. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and safeguard data when you use our mobile application and related services.

We comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), COPPA, and the requirements of both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store regarding apps designed for children.

1. Who is Buno for?

Buno is designed for parents and caregivers of children aged 0–6 years. While the stories are directed at young children, the app is intended to be used by adults. We do not knowingly allow children to create accounts or provide personal information directly.

2. What personal data do we collect?

We collect the minimum amount of data necessary to deliver personalized stories and improve your experience. This includes:

When you use the app:

  • Your child’s first name (optional, for story personalization)
  • Age of your child (to tailor story content)
  • Selected story themes or preferences

When you contact us:

  • Email address (if you reach out for support or sign up for a newsletter)

We do not collect:

  • Full names, addresses, or contact details of children
  • Voice recordings or photos
  • Geolocation or device identifiers for tracking purposes

We also do not use any personal information for advertising or profiling.

3. How do we use this data?

We use your input only to:

  • Generate personalized stories for your child
  • Adjust story themes to be age-appropriate
  • Improve app performance and usability (anonymous analytics)

We do not retain any personal data longer than necessary. Story details like name and age are used in real time to generate the story and are not stored afterward.

4. Do we share your data?

No. We do not sell, rent, or share personal data with third parties.
We may use secure third-party services (such as cloud providers) to process data temporarily while generating content. These providers meet strict privacy and security standards and are compliant with GDPR and COPPA regulations.

5. Children’s privacy

Buno is compliant with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and relevant EU child privacy laws. Children do not create accounts or provide data independently.

All personal information (such as a child’s name or age) is entered by a parent or caregiver, used solely for story personalization, and not retained or stored after use.

We never use children’s data for behavioral advertising or user profiling.

6. Security

We take data security seriously. All communications between the app and our servers are encrypted via HTTPS. We use secure servers with strict access controls. No persistent child-identifying data is stored.

7. Your rights (EU/UK residents)

Under the GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to processing of your data
  • Withdraw consent at any time

8. Data retention

We only retain minimal data for as long as it is needed to provide the app’s functionality or respond to your inquiries. Personalized story input is not stored after generation. Usage analytics (non-identifiable) may be retained to improve our app.

If we process data outside the European Economic Area (EEA), we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place as required by GDPR.

We may occasionally update this Privacy Policy. If significant changes are made, we will notify you via the app or email.

12. Use of Third-Party APIs (OpenAI & ElevenLabs)

To deliver personalized and narrated stories, Buno uses external services via secure APIs:

OpenAI (Model 4.1)
We use OpenAI’s GPT-4.1 model to generate custom stories based on the preferences you provide (such as name, age, and theme). According to OpenAI’s API data usage policy, data sent via API is not used to train or improve their models, and is not retained longer than necessary to provide the service. OpenAI states that they do not store input or outputs from API requests for training unless explicit user permission is granted. Buno never sends sensitive or identifiable information.

ElevenLabs
We use ElevenLabs’ voice synthesis API to narrate the generated stories using natural-sounding voices. According to ElevenLabs’ privacy and API documentation, data sent via their API is used solely for generating speech in real time, and not stored or used for model training unless consent is explicitly provided. We do not send personal identifiers or full user profiles.

All data passed to these services is handled securely, over encrypted channels (HTTPS), and limited to the minimum necessary for the service to function.

By using Buno, you acknowledge that your use of the app involves interaction with these external services under their respective privacy and security policies. We have taken care to choose vendors that are compliant with GDPR, COPPA, and the standards of the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
